Another Waendel Year
Wish that you could have been here
For another Waendel year.
The joy I had when I crossed the line
The end of fifty miles for the fifth time.
I wonder if next year I'll do it again?
Put myself through all that pain?
To put one foot in front of the other,
Walk fifty miles for my brother.
Despite the lack of training had,
I fought to the end, and I am glad.
And even though I did complain,
Maybe thinking "Never again!",
I continue to persevere,
Fighting through blood, sweat and tears.
Eventually I hear the band,
And run towards the end, as planned.
A Coke, as promised every year,
Whilst Dad will usually get a beer.
Look up to the sky, and I can see
You're smiling back, so proud of me.
And maybe all along it was you
That gave us strength to pull us through.
Through all the pain of every mile,
You were watching, all the while.
Enduring agony in my feet
Until my mission was complete.
The agony begins to subside
As I wear my medal with pride.
Victorious and relieved at last
Another Waendel year has passed.
